Ama's Picture Books

My grandmother recently left me her entire collection of picture books and children's literature. The entire collection is comprised of over 300 books. I am attempting to read as many as possible in 2014.

The Invention of Hugo Cabret

The Invention of Hugo Cabret - Brian Selznick

by Brian Selznick

The only thing I don't like about Brian Selznick's books is how long it takes him to write them. But they're definitely worth the wait.

Ama sent me this book my sophomore year in college. I read it the evening I received it in between Japanese worksheets and Project Runway. It's a very easy book to read, but the story is complex, and I'm still discovering new things in it on my second reread.

The illustrations and words work seamlessly together. I especially love the way Selznick highlights Hugo whenever he's in a crowd.

Check it out if you haven't already.
